okay, this isn't the usual relationship issue. I've to settle this by Friday coz my assignment's due.
It goes like this.. I accidentally paired up with this guy (whom i don't know at first), but now i sorta hang out with his group, which i don't like but don't have much choice coz i don't know anyone else. Not that i need to be with people, i'm fine with being alone, but that's another story.
We're doing an assignment, and i've to say i am quite pissed with him. He hasn't done a single thing yet, and Fri's the dateline. I've practically done the entire thing by myself.
What pisses me is his attitude towards it. He surfs the net when we are supposed to be doing CAD drawings, then dares to ask me if there's anything to do today. Hell yeah, the assignment for one? cheesepie.
His ignorance is one thing. His complete lack of knowledge is another. That's also why I don't bother giving him stuffs to do, coz he'll screw it up, or ask me how to do. If i spend time trying to explain, I might as well do by myself right. For example, we're supposed to do this CAD drawing and assembly. I finished up most of the stuff, gave him a simple component to draw (just to get him off the net), and he takes a bloody 2hrs with no result. I was quite pissed off because I could do that component in less than 20mins. Now i'm almost done and left with that piece to build onto something else.
My question is, should I email the lecturer to tell him that this guy doesn't deserve the full credit for the marks? This assignment is worth 25% of the module, and I'm quite confident of at least a B-. It just pisses me that seeing him do nothing and get the same results as me. Kinda like backstabbing him, no? Just that he won't know.. Or should I tell him face to face that he is not contributing and I won't include his name inside.
On the other hand, he's already screwed up his class test with only 30/100. so should I help him on account of 'friendship'? But i barely know him also. His bunch of frens are about the same, and not to imply anything but they make me feel quite gifted sometimes. They ask dumb questions, and after I explain, they ask the same thing again, which pisses me off. Its like they've no common sense at all, so who allowed them to get to yr2?Am I just being impatient and calculative? or should I fight for my work piece n effort?
I've burnt my 1 week break trying to do this assignment, n had no mood to go out at all.
Anyone else faced the same sorta problem before? =/Edited by weetweet 11 Sep `08, 12:11AM

what ya going to do to backstab.......?
why didnt you tell him about this issue before hand....
the assignment is still not finished right...??
if it's not...tell him now that if he doesnt contribute a decent amount for the next few days, then.......(you come up with something to fill in this blank k)
or if you feel that you don't want to deal with him, go talk to your lecturer....but you really should not have left it till so late ><
anyway, such issues are expected when doing group/team work...hurhur....

Been in your shoes be4. Had to do almost all of the 3 man job for the entire semester. It really sucks with all the tight schedules and other projects. However, why not try letting the matter pass? Take it as a revision. I'm sure doing most of the project sure makes u understand the subject more. Teaching ur 'partner' is another issue. Personally, I won't mind teaching if he's willing to learn since it serves as another revision for myself. On the other hand, I won't bother to waste my breathe if he's just there for the marks. The lecturer will definitely know who puts in more effort in the project. Even if he gets good grades because of your efforts, take it as if you are doing a good deed as a human being. There are enough worries in life so stay cheerful man, that's the most important thing.
Cheers~

darn, that newbie posting rule thingy, if this comes up a 2nd time. hahx
The assignment is basically done now. I typed out the report, did the calculations and the CAD drawings, left his component to insert in, and a few details.
Its not that he can contribute, I don't think that he can even if he wanted to. Or to put it, this thing is beyond him. The moment he asked me a stupid question from the start, i knew he didn't know anything. i mean, not even the basic mechanical knowledge..
yeah, i know its kinda last min, but i only get one consultation session with the lecturer once a week. And the first few weeks were spent sorting out alot of ambiguities in the question. That was the period where i needed to discuss the most, but end up discussing with myself, and eventually figuring out how to do it from the lec's tips.

erm hey. seems to me that whatever that guy does, it will never seem to match up with your standard and you're afraid by using 'his work', the grades will drop. so you decide to take everything into your own hands

i mean well at least he does make the effort to meet up with you if you ask him to right? not tt he disappeared and had fun while you're working your ass off. (you didn't mention all these facts so i'm just assuming over here)
think twice before you backstab. was he really in
the wrong for not doing anything? or was it you who didn't trust
him.
